In 1949, two years after Pakistan was created, Indian movie director M L Anand presented the romance-drama Lahore (1949) starring Nargis, Karan Dewan, Om Prakash, Pratima Devi, Randhir and others with music by Shyam Sunder.
The 2010 Indian Hindi Movie LAHORE is a completely different story. Designed to stir up nationalistic passions in Indians and Pakistanis who have been brainwashed over generations to be arch enemies, Lahore (2010) puts an Indian kick-boxing team competing with Pakistan in the Pakistani metropolis of Lahore. Sports has taken on a nationalist role in South-Asian cinema recently - Dil Bole Hadippa (2009) pitted a Pakistani cricket team against an Indian one, and the Pakistanis were shown to accept defeat gracefully from an Indian team that contained a woman masquerading a man. Also, a Bangladeshi soccer team is seen outplaying an Indian team in the recent Bangladeshi movie Jaago (2009).
