Objects which create an impression in your mind

Catch the best moment of life
Ever look at the wonderful pictures in magazines and brochures – especially where you have these yummy looking photographs of ice cream or fruits? How about pictures from an advertisement of your favorite pizza? Don’t they just make your mouth water? There are also other kinds of photographs which also depict different kinds of groups of objects which create an impression in your mind.
These are generally known as ‘Still Life Photographs’.
What is Still Life Photography?Still life photography is the depiction of inanimate subjects or a group of objects which are either natural or man-made, via the means of a photograph. It is a highly appreciated art form, wherein each photographer has a certain style. The idea is to convey a 'story' with the means of a photograph. Still life photographers always experiment with different compositions and the play of light and shadow over the objects of their composition.
Basics of Still Life Photography
Composition:The first thing to consider while shooting still life photographs is the object or objects that you are going to capture in your picture. The idea is to let the photograph tell its own story. The picture has to communicate with the viewer on a very subtle yet sensory level. It has to appeal to the different sensibilities of the viewer.
Therefore the object(s) which are used in the picture need to be arranged in a certain fashion. This is called the composition of the photograph. Still life photographers often experiment with different groups of objects and arrange and re-arrange them several times to get the right composition so as to convey their ‘story’ effectively.
Background:The second thing to consider is the background on which the objects are being kept. That too becomes part of the ‘story’ being told by the photographer. They add to the picture by providing a contrast to the collection of objects in the photograph. Different backgrounds create different effects of light and dark. Cloth will have folds while paper will have creases and so on. This has to gel with the composition that the photographer has in mind.
Still life photographers use black velvet cloth to absorb the light so that they do not get unwanted reflections and bright spots in the picture.
Lighting:This is the third aspect of still life photography which is as equally important as the first two. After all, these photographs use the play of light and shadow effectively to convey the ‘story’ of the picture. Still life photographers use natural light as far as possible because natural light gives a special glow and effect to the composition. Ideally, they place the composition near a window or a light source. If they are shooting in nature, they even experiment with different types of light. For example the kind of light one has just before it rains. Still life photographers also use different types of exposures with their cameras to achieve different results. They often also use a sheet of white paper on the side opposite to the light source to reflect some light into the shadowed areas.
Some Tips for Creating Stunning Still Life Photographs
  • With regards to composition of your photograph, you can try to place one object at a time and experiment with the arrangement accordingly.
  • With regards to backgrounds, you can also experiment with different image manipulation or editing softwares to change the way the background looks or ‘feels’ in the picture.
  • With regards to lighting, you can try to experiment with different colors and types of artificial light to enhance the shades of light and dark in the photograph.
  • Another tip to enhance your still life photography skills is to collect and study examples of different still life photographs of famous photographers. Observe their compositions and the use of light and shadow.

The difference is easy: the Forex trade market has opened up

Women Are Investing In Forex Successfully – Good News

You don’t typically think of women as being investors in risk-markets. There are the stereotypes (which are fast changing) of a male-dominated market, one where women are too timid to compete in. In the days of yore, possibly. Today? Not a chance. The difference is easy: the Forex trade market has opened up the investment playing field to one and all. Age, country and gender have become obsolete in the international currency market- and more women are finding it profitable.

The Forex trade market is attractive to female investors for a variety of reasons: it’s a fairly clear and comprehensive investing system; the information and tools are available; and most importantly it can be done from home. Gone are the over-complicated graphing systems a garbled, tough-to-follow investment percentages. Most of the Forex trading platforms available are extremely easy to use, to trade and since the market is so changeable, it can be profitable for anyone.

Women who are interested in Forex can get started immediately. You’ll have to begin with the terminology, which can seem unfamiliar and intimidating. Once you have just a few basic terms down, you can continue exploring your foray into Forex investing by one of two things: getting a broker, or looking at Forex trade platforms and trying out the demo investments.

In getting a broker, you’ll want to choose them quite carefully. Legitimate broker, or..? Women can tend to be a bit more tentative when dealing with finances or financial experts- but you can’t with your Forex trade broker. Ask as many questions as many times as it takes. Look at what the commission is, if any. Find out how much they’re willing to walk you through investing in the Forex trade market.

Demo investments can be done just to see if you’ve got an interest, or as practice while you study more about the Forex trade market. There are uncountable resources out there for the uninitiated female trader: from books of the basic steps to expert Forex trading, ebooks and tutorials. Many aren’t so expensive they’ll break the bank, and they’re understandable without being condescending.

Women becoming the new Forex investors is no surprise. The amount of women in international trade will undoubtedly increase steadily. And, hopefully, the stereotypes will diminish in equal proportions.

Successful Weight Loss Without Dieting Plan

Successful Weight Loss Without Dieting Plan

For many people weight loss is a chronic endeavor. All too often the shedding of pounds is a temporary event followed by a steady regain of lost weight. Most popular diets are unsuccessful in the long run because they fail to address the multi-faceted nature of what successful, permanent weight loss entails.

The hardest part of frugal weight loss is resisting eating when you’re not hungry. However, if you practice it as much as you can it soon gets to be quite straightforward, and you will gradually see excess weight being lost. And you begin to truly feel free!

The beauty of it all is that you can eat cake, biscuits, have whipped cream on your dessert or coffee – but only when you are hungry! You will find that you won’t have room in your tummy to eat them very often, except in very small quantities. And that’s OK.

If you find you do indulge on a particular day, simply don’t eat again until you feel hungry – if this is the next day then that’s when you next eat!!

Weight Loss Without Dieting Plan

Are you Sure, you can lose weight quickly? So Adopt one or more of these simple, painless strategies to help lose weight without going on a “diet”:

Eat Breakfast Every Day.

One habit that’s common to many people who have lost weight and kept it off is eating breakfast every day. “Many people think skipping breakfast is a great way to cut calories, but they usually end up eating more throughout the day, says Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, author of The Pocket Idiot’s Guide to the New Food Pyramids. “Studies show people who eat breakfast have lower BMIs than breakfast-skippers and perform better, whether at school or in the boardroom.” Try a bowl of whole-grain cereal topped with fruit and low-fat dairy for a quick and nutritious start to your day.

Close the Kitchen at Night.

Establish a time when you will stop eating so you won’t give in to the late-night munchies or mindless snacking while watching television. “Have a cup of tea, suck on a piece of hard candy or enjoy a small bowl of light ice cream or frozen yogurt if you want something sweet after dinner, but then brush your teeth so you will be less likely to eat or drink anything else,” suggests Elaine Magee, MPH, RD, WebMD’s “Recipe Doctor” and the author of Comfort Food Makeovers.

Choose Liquid Calories Wisely.

Sweetened drinks pile on the calories, but don’t reduce hunger like solid foods do. Satisfy your thirst with water, sparkling water with citrus, skim or low-fat milk, or small portions of 100% fruit juice. Try a glass of nutritious and low-calorie vegetable juice to hold you over if you get hungry between meals. Be careful of alcohol calories, which add up quickly. If you tend to drink a glass or two of wine or a cocktail on most days, limiting alcohol to the weekends can be a huge calorie saver.

Eat More Produce.

Eating lots of low-calorie, high-volume fruits and vegetables crowds out other foods that are higher in fat and calories. Move the meat off the center of your plate and pile on the vegetables. Or try starting lunch or dinner with a vegetable salad or bowl of broth-based soup, suggests Barbara Rolls, PhD, author of The Volumetrics Eating Plan. The U.S. government’s 2005 Dietary Guidelines suggest that adults get 7-13 cups of produce daily. Ward says that’s not really so difficult: “Stock your kitchen with plenty of fruits and vegetables and at every meal and snack, include a few servings,” she says. “Your diet will be enriched with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, fiber, and if you fill up on super-nutritious produce, you won’t be reaching for the cookie jar.

Go for the Grain.

By substituting whole grains for refined grains like white bread, cakes, cookies, and pretzels, you add much-needed fiber and will fill up faster so you’re more likely to eat a reasonable portion. Choose whole-wheat breads and pastas, brown rice, bran flakes, popcorn, and whole-rye crackers.

Control Your Environments.

Another simple strategy to help cut calories is to control your environment – everything from stocking your kitchen with lots of healthy options to choosing the right restaurants. That means avoiding the temptation by staying away from all-you-can-eat restaurants. And when it comes to parties, “eat a healthy snack before so you won’t be starving, and be selective when you fill your plate at the buffet,” suggests Ward. Before going back for more food, wait at least 15 minutes and have a big glass of water.

Trim Portions.

If you did nothing else but reduce your portions by 10%-20%, you would lose weight. Most of the portions served both in restaurants and at home are bigger than you need. Pull out the measuring cups to get a handle on your usual portion sizes, and work on paring them down. Get instant portion control by using small bowls, plates, and cups, says Brian Wansink, PhD, author of Mindless Eating. You won’t feel deprived because the food will look plentiful on dainty dishware.

Add More Steps.

Get yourself a pedometer and gradually add more steps until you reach 10,000 per day. Throughout the day, do whatever you can to be more active — pace while you talk on the phone, take the dog out for an extra walk, and march in place during television commercials. Having a pedometer serves as a constant motivator and reminder.

Have Protein at Every Meal and Snack.

Adding a source of lean or low-fat protein to each meal and snack will help keep you feeling full longer so you’re less likely to overeat. Try low-fat yogurt, small portion of nuts, peanut butter, eggs, beans, or lean meats. Experts also recommend eating small, frequent meals and snacks (every 3-4 hours), to keep your blood sugar levels steady and to avoid overindulging.

Switch to Lighter Alternatives.

Whenever you can, use the low-fat versions of salad dressings, mayonnaise, dairy products, and other products. “You can trim calories effortlessly if you use low-fat and lighter products, and if the product is mixed in with other ingredients, no one will ever notice,” says Magee. More smart substitutions: Use salsa or hummus as a dip; spread sandwiches with mustard instead of mayo; eat plain roasted sweet potatoes instead of loaded white potatoes; use skim milk instead of cream in your coffee; hold the cheese on sandwiches; and use a little vinaigrette on your salad instead of piling on the creamy dressing.

How to Create the No-Makeup Look

How to Create the No-Makeup Look

I am going to share with you a few tips to looking great on any day without a lot of effort.

Sometimes we feel as though we don’t have enough time to get all dressed up and made up when we have so much to do. But try these steps to looking fab in just a few minutes.

The art of perfecting a natural, no-makeup look is quite simple actually and doesn’t require a lot of work. Not only is it chic and professional but it’s a breath of fresh air from the usual done-up look.

As much as I worship color makeup, I have been more into that Au natural look lately. Below are some tips on how you can wear makeup to enhance your features while keeping it subtle.

Prep

Before layering on your foundation, make sure your face is thoroughly cleansed and moisturized. Look for a moisturizer with an SPF to minimize premature wrinkles and sun damage.

Prime

Once your moisturizer has settled in, continue with a foundation primer. This is one of the most important steps in faking a flawless face because not only does it prep the face for foundation but also minimizes the look of pores and gives everything a soft, smooth canvas.

Foundation

For a flawless finish, avoid heavy foundations and instead go for a light, sheer foundation. This will ensure enough coverage but also give you a flawless, natural finish.

Concealer

If you’re suffering from pimples or other pesky little complexion problems, don’t forget to use a concealer. Concealers do what their name say: conceal things! So dab a tiny little amount of concealer onto problem areas such as pimples or redness and pat in. To blend things in and make sure your makeup stays put, dust a translucent powder over your entire face.

Don’t Forget the Brows

Eyebrows are one of the most prominent features and we often overlook them. Make sure you use a brow brush to brush your eyebrows into shape. Then, use a tinted gel or just a regular gel to make them stay in place. Tinted brow gels are great because not only do they help your brow hairs stay in place but they also enhance your brow color.

A Touch of Color

To finish off your natural look, dab a little cream blush onto the apples of your cheeks. Make sure you choose a light, rosy color that will give you a natural flush. Finish off with a touch of tinted lip balm and you’re all set!

Advice

Keep fresh throughout the day with the help of powder-free blotting papers. Layering more product onto your skin will only result in unflattering build-up which makes your complexion appear dull.

10 Things You Can Do Today to Simplify Your Life

Simple Living Simplified: 10 Things You Can Do Today to Simplify Your Life

Post written by Leo Babauta. Follow me on Twitter.
Simplifying can sometimes be overwhelming. The amount of stuff you have in your life and the amount of things you have to do can be too big a mountain to tackle.
But you don’t have to simplify it all at once. Do one thing at a time, and take small steps. You’ll get there, and have fun doing it.
In fact, you can do little but important things today to start living the simple life.
I was criticized a few weeks ago when I published the Simple Living Manifesto: 72 Ideas to Simplify Your Life, because many people felt the list was too long. I heard this point, and this post is my response: just the 10 most important things.
And these are not 10 difficult things, but 10 simple things that you can do today. Not tomorrow, not next week, not next month. Today. Choose one and do it today. Tomorrow, choose another.
If you do these 10 things, you’ll have made great strides with little effort.
1. Make a short list. Take out a sheet of paper and fold it into a small square, perhaps 3×5 inches. Or take out an index card. Now make a short list of the 4-5 most important things in your life. What’s most important to you? What do you value most? What 4-5 things do you most want to do in your life? Simplifying starts with these priorities, as you are trying to make room in your life so you have more time for these things.
2. Drop 1 commitment. Think about all the things in your life that you’re committed to doing, and try to find one that you dread doing. Something that takes up time but doesn’t give you much value. Perhaps you’re on a team, or coaching something, or on a board or committee, or whatever. Something that you do each day or week or month that you don’t really want to do. Now take action today to drop that commitment. Call someone, send an email, telling the appropriate person or people that you just don’t have the time. You will feel relief. I’d recommend dropping all commitments that don’t contribute to your short list (from Item #1), but for today, just drop 1 commitment.
3. Purge a drawer. Or a shelf, or a countertop, or a corner of a room. Not an entire room or even an entire closet. Just one small area. You can use that small area as your base of simplicity, and then expand from there. Here’s how to purge: 1) empty everything from the drawer or shelf or corner into a pile. 2) From this pile, pick out only the most important things, the stuff you use and love. 3) Get rid of the rest. Right now. Trash it, or put it in your car to give away or donate. 4) Put the stuff you love and use back, in a neat and orderly manner.
4. Set limits. Read Haiku Productivity for more. Basically, you set limits for things you do regularly: email, RSS posts, tasks, feeds, items in your life, etc. And try to stick with the limits. Today, all you have to do is set limits for a few things in your life. Tomorrow, try to stick with them.
5. Simplify your to-do list. Take a look at your to-do list. If it’s more than 10 items long, you can probably simplify it a bit. Try to find at least a few items that can be eliminated, delegated, automated, outsourced, or ignored. Shorten the list. This is a good habit to do once a week.
6. Free up time. Simplifying your life in general is a way to free up time to do the stuff you want to do. Unfortunately, it can be hard to find time to even think about how to simplify your life. If that’s the case, free up at least 30 minutes a day for thinking about simplifying. Or alternatively, free up a weekend and think about it then. How can you free up 30 minutes a day? Just a few ideas: wake earlier, watch less TV, eat lunch at your desk, take a walk for lunch, disconnect from the Internet, do email only once today, shut off your phones, do 1 less thing each day.
7. Clear your desk. I can personally attest to the amazing feeling that a clean desk can give you. It’s such a simple thing to do, and yet it does so much for you. If your desk is covered with papers and notes and gadgets and office supplies, you might not be able to get this done today. But here are the basic steps: 1) Clear everything off your desk and put it in a pile (either in your inbox or on the floor). 2) Process the pile from top to bottom, one item at a time. Do not defer decisions on any item — deal with them immediately and quickly. 3) For each item, either file it immediately, route it to someone else, trash it, or note it on your to-do list (and put it in an “action” folder). If it’s a gadget or office supply, find a place for it in your desk drawers (or get rid of it). 4) Repeat until your pile is empty and your desk is clear. Be sure to get rid of any knick knacks. Your desk should have your computer, your inbox, perhaps a notepad, and maybe a family photo (but not many). Ahh, a clear desk! 5) From now on, put everything in your inbox, and at least once a day, process it in the same way as above.
8. Clear out your email inbox. This has the same psychological effect as a clear desk. Is your email inbox always full of read and unread messages? That’s because you’re delaying decisions on your emails. If you have 50, let’s say, or fewer emails in your inbox, you can process them all today. If you have hundreds, you should put them in a temporary folder and get to them one chunk at a time (do 20 per day or something). Here’s how you process your inbox to empty — including emails already in your inbox, and all future incoming emails: 1) process them top to bottom, one at a time, deciding and disposing of each one immediately. 2) Your choices are to delete, archive, respond immediately (and archive or delete), forward (and archive or delete), or mark it with a star (or something like that) and note it on your to-do list to respond to later (and archive). 3) Process each email like that until the inbox is empty. 4) Each time you check your email, process to empty. Ahh, an empty inbox!
9. Move slower. We rush through the day, from one task to another, from one appointment to another, until we collapse on the couch, exhausted, at the end of the day. Instead, simplify your life by doing less (see Items 1, 4 and 5) and doing them more slowly. Eat slower, drive slower, walk slower, shower slower, work slower. Be more deliberate. Be present. This isn’t something you’re going to master today, but you can start practicing today.
10. Single-task. Instead of multi-tasking, do one thing at a time. Remove all distractions, resist any urge to check email or do some other habitual task like that while you’re doing the task at hand. Stick to that one task, until you’re done. It’ll make a huge difference in both your stress level and your productivity.
